MASURKAR hospital was founded in 1973 by Dr. Arun G Masurkar, a General Surgeon, along with a Gynaecologist and Anaesthetist. Both studied at the GS Medical College and T N Medical colleges in Mumbai and had a passionate vision to bring specialised care in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and General Surgery—services that were primarily accessible only in large cities—to rural Karnataka. It was the first-ever consultant-run hospital in the taluka town of Gokak, established in a rented space in the town's center.
The hospital garnered an overwhelming response from patients, prompting the founders to build their own Maternity-Surgical hospital on a spacious plot along the Sankeshwar Yaragatti Munavalli Highway, on the outskirts of Gokak. Initially, it was a barren land housing a 30-bedded hospital. Through relentless efforts towards afforestation, the area has transformed into a lush green environment, creating a peaceful setting for Advanced Hospital Facilities and Homely Care.
In 1998, a new wing was inaugurated when Dr. Seema, a Gynaecologist, and Dr. Ashwin, a General and Laparoscopic Surgeon, joined the team after completing their studies. Both were raised in Mumbai but were eager to contribute to the good work being done in Gokak. They aspired to enhance maternity, gynaecology, and surgical care, introducing Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Endoscopic Urology, as well as Gynaecology and Infertility treatment including Intra-uterine insemination and fertility-enhancing surgeries like Laparo-hysteroscopy.
